Junk Food is Addictive

Junk food is addictive and obesity is on the increase worldwide.

Obesity is an increase of body fat, usually 20 percent or more over a person's ideal body weight. Obesity increases the risk of many illnesses and disabilities.

Much anxiety has been expressed about the growing rate of obesity worldwide. The World Health Organization today list obesity as a worldwide epidemic. Chronic diseases happen because obesity is becoming more and more common.

Too much weight can result in many serious, life-threatening health problems. These diseases include hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus, and a greater risk of coronary disease.

The cause of obesity continues to be talked and studied.  Although it has long agreed that obesity is a result of too little exercise and too much eating, new research suggests there may be some hereditary influence with genetic tendency for obesity to the mother’s weight.

Researchers are troubled over the increase in the number of children and young people who are obese in the US and Europe

In the western culture, being slim is the goal that most of us, especially women, would love to achieve. In the past being fat meant affluence and social admiration.

Later on, a new ethos emerged where slenderness was the sign a beauty and health. There were many social stigmas connected to being fat, such as laziness and gluttony which still persists today.

In some cultures such as the African, African Americans and Hispanics, as well as other ethnic groups, the larger body is still regarded in a positive way. The larger body, especially women is admired and treasured.

The most tried and true method remains decreasing the caloric intake and increasing energy output. Exercise burns fat stored and increases the metabolic rate for a number of hours after the activity.

Keeping away from junk food is an absolute must when you are trying to lose weight.
Information is plentiful out there on the realities of eating foods such as chips, crisps, burgers and pizzas.  Some of these are classified as junk food especially if you consume it every day.

It is very difficult to design a balanced diet on junk food since the content of those foods are very high in fat, salt and sugar.

You can become addicted to junk food especially if you eat cakes and pastries every day.  These foods give you a high because of too much insulin in the blood.  When the high plunges, you then feel flat and more junk food is needed to pep you up again.

The best way to get back to eating healthily and get rid of the junk food craving is to replace all the rubbish with good quality food.

You do not have to give up snacks. There are good, healthy munchies in the shops to buy. It is important to read labels carefully looking for the hidden fats and sugars. Also, replace burgers and chips with foods such as chicken and vegetables, salads and fruit.
