Obesity has reached epidemic proportions. One in three Americans is obese. Obesity is also increasing rapidly throughout the world, and the rate of obesity has nearly doubled from 1991 to 1998.

Obesity is not just for beauty concerns. It is a grim health problem connected with over 300,000 deaths each year. Obesity also adds to the risk of getting chronic diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, strokes and heart attacks.


Reports show that 95 percent of all people who lose weight regain it within five years. Given this startling fact a more effective treatment for obesity must be found and quickly.
